Ideas to celebrate Easter with the kids

Ideas to celebrate Easter with the kids

Easter is almost here, and like every year, this Sunday, April 9th, will mark one of the most spring-like festivities on the calendar. People participate in the events and traditions during Holy Week and end the week by celebrating with family or friends on Easter Sunday.

While there are many different traditions, the most typical custom in Spain is to go for a snack in the mountains or at a meadow full of flowers and nature. It's also a tradition to eat the popular Easter cake called a mona.

At Ale-Hop, we love family plans and enjoying the good weather and traditions. That's why we're bringing you two recipe ideas today to have a lovely day.

1. Decorate Easter eggs with the kids.

Kids are on vacation at this time. We know that it is sometimes difficult to keep them entertained.

One great idea to make them feel happy and have fun is to color the famous Easter eggs with them.

For this plan, you will only need:

  • Boiled eggs. Before leaving home, prepare the eggs and take them in a food container. It will only take you about 10 to 13 minutes, depending on the cooking point you like.

  • Paper towels.

  • Elastic bands.

  • Water in a sprayer container.

  • Food dye.

Once you have everything packed and ready, it's time to go to the mountain!

Choose a quiet place with a picnic table so that the kids can paint comfortably. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Put the boiled egg on top of a paper towel. Then wrap it up and tie it with an elastic band.

  2. When you have it tied up well, use the food dye to decorate the paper towel with different colors. Let the imagination and creativity of the little ones fly here!

  3. When you have the egg covered in colors, add water to it with the help of a sprayer to moisten it.

  4. Finally, let it dry for 5 hours. When this time is up, the Easter egg will be ready!

2. Prepare the traditional Easter cake, or mona.

Just like with the egg recipe, choose a quiet outdoor place to go for a snack with the kids once you have prepared the recipe.

Here is the list of ingredients you'll need:

  • Milk: 1/4L.

  • 1 egg.

  • A pinch of salt.

  • 100 g of butter.

  • 12 g of yeast.

  • 80 gr of sugar.

Steps to make the mona:

  1. Add the flour to a bowl along with the dry yeast and mix everything thoroughly.

  2. Add the other ingredients: melted butter, milk, sugar, egg, and a pinch of salt. Next, you need to beat it with the help of a mixer.

  3. Shape the dough with your hands until it is a ball.

  4. Put the dough in the oven for about 20-30 minutes at a maximum temperature of 50 degrees, leaving the oven door ajar until you can see that the dough has risen.

  5. Once the dough has grown, divide it into 4 or 5 parts depending on the number of monas you want to make and what size.

  6. When you have the shape right, put them back in the oven for 10 minutes at 50 degrees.

  7. Take them out to brown them with egg yolk or with the oven preheated to 200º, put it back in again for 20 and 30 minutes.
